Even though my family has owned our house in North Carolina many years, I somehow have not made it to Biltmore until now. I know right? Crazy. I have always wanted to wait until it snows to go, but it hasn't snowed in 2 years so I decided to cut my losses and go for it. It was everything I imagined it would be and more. This place is absolutely insane. A 175,000 square foot mansion sitting on over 10 square miles of rolling hills, the Biltmore Mansion is that largest home in America. George Vanderbilt (grandson of the "Commodore") constructed Bitlmore in 1889 and it served as home to the Vanderbilt family for his entire life. The Biltmore Estate feautres 250 rooms, an early indoor swimming pool, a turn of the century gym (the equipment looks like torture devices), a vineyard and winery, the biggest greenhouse I've ever seen, it's own village, and just everything ridiculous you could imagine. It was all very Downton Abby. I was half expecting Maggie Smith to come strolling in the grand entrance dressed in a fancy hat and puffy sleeves. If you are ever in Asheville, I highly reccomend you check this place out! The tickets are not cheap, so I reccomend you get there early and make a day of it! It is literally impossible to run out of things to do here.

When pretending to be a Vanderbilt, it is important to keep it classy and comfy. I chose my new Sail-to-Sable tunic that I picked up a couple days ago at Wit's End in Highlands. I paired it with some J.Crew leather flip flops and my favorite basket weaved bag. Even though most of the other people there will be wearing fanny packs, don't make that mistake! What if Anderson Cooper decides to drop in on the family estate?!

My top 5 fave Vanderbilts:

1. Gloria: #duh, of course she's my favorite. Not only was she an artist, fashion designer, and all around fabulous lush; she gave birth to the most beautiful man alive, for which I believe we are all thankful.

2. Anderson Cooper: (see #1) I think all our hearts melted when we watched Anderson in his tiny boat rescuing puppies after Katrina. He will forever be the Silver Fox.

3. Edith Vanderbilt: The original mistress of Biltmore, she bagged the ultimate bachelor, so she must have been one hell of a woman.

4. Cornelius Vanderbilt: Forget the fact that he built a 100 million dollar fortune for his family and endowed Vanderbilt University, the guy's nickname was "the commodore," that's cool enough.

5. George Vanderbilt: He renounced a life in Manhattan after he fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains, where he built a beautiful estate and a lasting legacy....and there's a Lilly store in his village, so yeah, I'm a fan.
